Frisco BBQ Challenge: Are You Ready For Some Ribs?

June 10, 2014

It's not officially summer in Summit County until chefs from around the county fire up their smokers and grills to compete for honors at the town's annual BBQ challenge. This year's edition of Summit County's tastiest event starts with live music Thursday (June 12) evening and continues through Sunday with all the popular events, including the Bacon Burner 6k race, pig races, and concerts.

Of course, the main event is the actual BBQ competition, taken very seriously by grill masters from all over, who hoard their secret ingredients to concoct an amazing array of tasty ribs, chicken, sausages and more.

Once you've done your tasting, be sure to enjoy some of Frisco's outdoor activities to burn off some of those BBQ calories. Try a hike up the Mt. Royal trail past historic mining ghost towns to the summit, with a bird's eye view of Frisco and Dillon Reservoir.

You can also stroll from Main Street to the North Tenmile Creek trail, where a rocky footpath will quickly take you deep into the Gore Range and the Eagles Nest Wilderness.

If you've always wanted to try whitewater rafting or kayaking, this is the year to do it. An exceptional snowpack means strong flows in Colorado rivers throughout the summer. Several Frisco-based outfitters are ready to take you on a thrilling whitewater ride whenever you're ready. Check out Kodi Rafting for some of the best local trips.

Whatever your vacation plans, we have some great summer deals on Copper Mountain vaction lodging, including a large family style townhome within walking distance of all the Main Street BBQ action. Check our rentals page for details.
