Nearly 100 percent of Copper’s terrain is open, with 156 inches of total snowfall so far this season, more expected later in the week
SUMMIT COUNTY — Widespread weekend snowfall was reported from across the Summit-Vail zone and around Colorado, with 21 inches at Wolf Creek, 12 at Monarch, 11 at Aspen Mountain and 10 inches at Powderhorn and Aspen Highlands. In Summit County, Copper and Breckenridge reported 5 inches, with 3 at Keystone and 2 inches at A-Basin.
Copper has reported 12 inches new in the last two days, 22 inches in the past week and 46 inches for the month. According to the Colorado Ski Country USA snow report, Copper’s blue and green terrain is 100 percent open, and 97 percent of its expert terrain is open, for a total of 2,085 acres.
Copper is reporting a 56-inch base at mid-mountain and 67 inches up top. Check out the trail report here.
The weekend storm boosted the snowpack significantly, with automated SNOTEL sites from around the region showing their deepest readings of the winter. The Grizzly Peak site, (not far from A-Basin at 11,500 feet), is showing a 44-inch snowpack, with 56 inches at the Vail Mountain SNOTEL site, 50 inches at Fremont Pass and 40 inches at the 10,500-foot SNOTEL site on Copper Mountain.
Drier air and cool temperatures will prevail across the local mountains for the next few days under a northwest flow, while another storm system builds over the Pacific Northwest and moves into the area Wednesday night.
Just after sunrise, The Dillon station reported a temperature of 6.5 degrees, with highs only expected to reach the teens Monday. At Loveland Pass (11,889 feet), the early morning reading was 1 degree with winds out of the west-northwest at 6 MPH. Temperatures will remain in the teens today, dip below zero tonight and climb back into the teens Tuesday, so beware of frostbite out on the slopes.
Clear skies are expected through Tuesday, when clouds will start to move in late in the day heralding a storm moving south and east from the Gulf of Alaska.
