Ski teams training at Copper, new terrain at A-Basin

With Mother Nature and local snowmaking crews teaming up, the ski season is well under way in Summit County, Colorado.

Ski and snowboard teams started training at Copper Mountain on Oct. 19, and Araphoe Basin announced the opening of a second trail just in time for the weekend. A-Basin’s snowmakers will now be concentrating on the upper part of the mountain to try and open top-to-bottom skiing sometime in the next few weeks.

A-Basin has also been able to open a few terrain features in the High Divide Terrain Park.

Over at Copper, the U.S. Ski Team, Team Summit and squads from Sweden, Italy, Japan, Australia are all starting to prepare for the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver and the upcoming World Cup season.

Copper will open for the season Nov. 6 with the annnual Lift Off celebration featuring showings of new ski flicks, gear demos and concerts. Past Lift Off performers include Blackalicious, the Beatnuts, and Rahzel from the Roots.

Keystone started making snow this week in preparation for a Nov. 6 opening and Breckenridge has set the same date for its opening.
